About Mike Flood
I've 'dabbled' with photography for a long time. But it's only been in the last couple of years that I've been able to spend time and money to really pursue it. My favorite subject has been, like so many other people, close up's of flowers. I'd just see a pretty flower and take a picture. But after a couple of workshops, and taking lots of photos, one day I found myself not saying 'gosh ... that's a pretty flower ...' but rather 'wow ... look how the light looks there ..." Then I knew my view had changed.
I've known for a long time that overcast days make nice colors and detail. Now the early and late light of a day that provides the luminance and highlights is what I look for. Anything else is usually too dull for my personal taste. I like to think that what I'm photographing is not a flower or leaves but light as modified by the colors and textures of the subject. Now I'm working to widen my view and find other subjects.
